Three Little Birds

Brighton and Dundee based band Three Little Birds are a three part close harmony group comprised of jazz vocalists Ela Southgate, Sara Oschlag and Rachel Simpson. Their perfectly blended voices create intricate, complex arrangements of well-loved jazz standards and Bossa Nova songs, expertly weaving in vocalese and scat solos. Guitar accompaniment and sensitively played trumpet help expand their mellow, intimate sound.

Ela and Rachel met on the Chichester jazz course, they studied piano and trumpet respectively as well as singing and jazz harmony. They met Sara through the Brighton jazz scene and it turned out Sara had also studied jazz at Chichester the year before. They were all fans of each other’s singing and knew it would be fun to sing together. They arranged some songs themselves (Rachel’s arrangement for This Is Always being one of their favourites) but most of their songs are arranged by Matt Wall, one of the many professional jazz musicians They’re lucky enough to play with who writes the arrangements specifically for the trio.

Music is their passion and their profession. Sara and Ela are primarily solo jazz singers, performing live gigs with small and larger ensembles at weddings and restaurants as well as for listening audiences at dedicated music venues. Sara also teaches singing privately, get in touch if you fancy learning yourself! Rachel composes and makes sound effects for computer games as well as gigging with jazz bands.
